This year’s Savin Rock Festival captivated attendees with its vibrant celebrations and exciting lineup of events. The Savin Rock Festival Committee brought together many organizations, businesses, and families for a great summer extravaganza. The festival celebrates life in one of America’s oldest coastal communities while paying homage to the rich legacy of Savin Rock.
The story of Savin Rock dates back to 1838 with the opening of the Savin Rock House Hotel. Over the years it transformed into a popular resort hub. It was officially incorporated as an amusement park by the Savin Rock Park Co. Inc. in 1925. Savin Rock Park attracted a staggering 300,000 visitors and 66,000 automobiles on its opening day.
For four glorious decades, the renowned seaside park captured hearts and imaginations. “The Coney Island of Connecticut” eventually closed its doors on September 21, 1966, paving the way for the Savin Rock Urban Renewal Project.
